Knowing the history of art is important to understand the context in which your art falls in the development of human ideas and expressions. Having this level of historical context allows you to make better art and design decisions on the art you intend to make. The study of the history of art is a study of aesthetics and visual literacy. It adds a particular attention to critical looking, building core skills to learn how the visual and physical qualities of images and objects can be used to communicate. In addition, you will build a vocabulary of art terms that will enable you to better communicate your ideas and demonstrate your professional knowledge.
